BESIX Watpac engaged VAE to undertake the mechanical services on the James Cook University (JCU) Ideas Lab project.
The 3,546 square meter JCU Ideas Lab is the centre of the broader innovation community of northern Queensland. It brings together businesspeople, entrepreneurs, community organisations, researchers, educators and students from various sectors and interest groups.
The Ideas Lab provides a platform for converting JCU’s education and research into innovation, generating jobs and economic growth for the Cairns, and Far North Queensland region.
The three-storey building, designed to meet LEED Gold Environmental and Sustainability Standards, contains spaces organised around a central atrium featuring a green wall and floating staircase. A mesh fabric screen wraps the façade with images and colours projected onto the building’s exterior.
VAE provided the mechanical services on the project, including installation of a Tridium Niagara BMS Platform. Our Cairns Regional office provided local labour, partnered with a local supply chain on the project.
The successful completion of JCU Ideas Lab, is the first project we have undertaken for BESIX Watpac in Cairns, and we look forward to working with them again on future projects.
